folkwise writing workshop SPRING '22
Calling writers new and old for a weekly creative ritual (online).
folkwise: (adj.) having or showing reverence and attention to the wisdom of one's ancient community and its modern application to art and life.
Read contemporary fiction and poetry, then free your hand with literary exercises. Convene with the folk wisdom of the ancients. Our curriculum is inspired by the magick and fable of the village, from shtetls in Eastern Europe to a cluster of igloos on the Subarctic Coast, and Colombian pueblos. Play with words, breathe, and investigate folk tradition. Syllabus will include Grace Paley, Lawrence Millman, Isaac Beshevis Singer, Sarah Shun-Lien Bynum, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez, among others.
